NI Hong Kong Branch AGM 2016
The 2016 AGM was held at the Hong Kong Maritime Museum on 17th June and around 20 members attended.
Outgoing Hon. Chairman Vikrant Malhotra reported on a very busy year which included our biennial seminar on the challenges facing the modern mariner, numerous excellent talks, and interesting site visits to the VTC and the Maritime Services Training Institute. It is fair to say that the branch has flourished under Vikrant’s leadership, and a vote of thanks was passed unanimously.
Hon. Treasurer Petty Leung revealed that the branch finances are reasonably healthy following the seminar, which is our major fundraising event. There should be enough in the kitty to support our two chosen charities – The Mission to Seafarers and MPPF – and a decision on the size of our donations will be taken at the next committee meeting. Petty kindly agreed to continue managing our finances and was re-elected unopposed.
Four new committee members were elected – Vijay Soman, John Yu, Kaushik Roy and Suresh Anand. Existing committee members who were standing for re-election were all voted back in.
The election of office bearers resulted in the following:
Hon. Chairman Carlos Antao
Vice Chairman Paul Walton
Hon. Secretary Amit Barghava
Hon. Treasurer Petty Leung
Suresh Anand kindly agreed to take on the new role of CPD champion.
This was the last meeting with Donal Keaney as Hon. Secretary. In his relatively short time in Hong Kong, Donal has worked tirelessly for the branch and he was thanked both during the AGM and at the function in Cafe 8 afterwards. We wish him every success in his future activities overseas, and he will take with him a branch plaque as a reminder of the high regard in which he is held by his friends and colleagues in Hong Kong.
The meeting then adjourned so that members could join their guests at Cafe 8 for drinks and a delicious buffet.
