On the 17th February 2011 more than 50 Hong Kong Branch members and guests attended at the Police Officers Club to hear Jon Noble FNI, FIIMS General Manager International Salvage Union, Executive Director, Maritime London Officer Cadet Scolarship Scheme
to give a presentation entitled
"What to Expect When The Balloon Goes Up.............and what preparation is useful"
This presentation, making extensive use of case studies, discusses the life cycle of a major marine casualty. Topics covered include:

John Noble has been involved in shipping since he joined HMS Conway in 1962. After obtaining his Master Mariner certificate he studied for a
BSc
at Southampton University and became a claims executive with Thomas Miller before setting up the London office of Murray Fenton in 1980. Following the acquisition of Murray Fenton by BMT in 2001, John served as Chief Executive Officer of the Salvage Association until 2005.
His practical expertise lies mainly in salvage, wreck removal and oil pollution. He was involved in more than 60 major casualties, including
Braer
, Sea Empress
and
Erica,
and he has served as an SCR and expert witness on several high-profile cases.
John acts as advisor to the International Salvage Union, where he is now General Manager, and also runs his own consultancy.
